Victory Garden Campaign a Success!

I'm not sure how many of you remember this far back but... At the end of the summer I posted a blog about a new campaign to turn part of the White House lawn into a Victory Garden. It is official, they're actually doing it! The New York Times posted this article yesterday about the future groundbreaking.

"WASHINGTON — On Friday, Michelle Obama will begin digging up a patch of White House lawn to plant a vegetable garden, the first since Eleanor Roosevelt's victory garden in World War II. There will be no beets (the president doesn't like them) but arugula will make the cut.

While the organic garden will provide food for the first family’s meals and formal dinners, its most important role, Mrs. Obama said, will be to educate children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at time when obesity has become a national concern."

What an inspiring example! Let's take the first family's efforts to heart and get working on victory gardens in our own backyards. The high today is 70 degrees. It's a wonderful day for a ground breaking. :)
