Did you know…
The Winnemucca Community Garden (WCG) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation operating an organic garden and arboretum in Winnemucca Nevada. The garden is entering its 7th growing season and continues to cultivate a place of beauty where the community can gather, grow, and celebrate nature. The Garden is supported entirely through generous donations, and fund raising efforts from our Community.
It’s BIG!!
Our 2.5 acres, donated by the City of Winnemucca, include 72 plots adopted by community members, 1,300 feet of interpretive trail through an arboretum, a butterfly garden, a stream-fed pond that recycles water, a medicinal herb garden, a greenhouse, and a children’s garden.
It’s MORE than a Garden!
The Community Garden also supports several programs designed to enhance the quality of life in Winnemucca. The garden sponsors workshops on various aspects of gardening from starting seeds, to pruning fruit trees, to food preservation. The Jr. Master Gardener club teaches young gardeners how to plant, cultivate, grow and harvest their own gardens. It’s a great place for families and friends to enjoy.
We help feed hungry people….
A portion of the garden’s harvest is donated to the local food bank and plot holders and area gardeners also generously donate through the Garden’s “Plant a Row for the Hungry” campaign. Last season we donated over 400 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to the Food Bank.
Just for you……
The garden is open from dawn to dusk and is enjoyed by community members from all walks of life; teachers, parents, children, senior citizens, low-income families, and those with disabilities—the garden is a treasured community space truly supported by and sustained through generous donations from the community.
