Harvesting has begun!
For a lucky few, crops have already come in. I've been harvesting lettuce from the Plant a Row plot since the beginning of May.
Now, granted I hadn't actually planted the lettuce (it had planted itself), but still, I don't mind taking credit for it at the food bank. :)
Anyway, for those of you who are ready and willing to donate some of that extra to the Food Bank, I've just put a basket at the entrance to the garden. A volunteer from the Food Bank (thanks, Azahel!
) will collect any items dropped off there every Monday and Thursday morning. At the Food Bank, they weigh the donation, fill out a donor receipt and return a copy to us. Each pound of fresh produce is worth $2!
And don't forget, if you know anyone with cherry trees that doesn't want the fruit, please call the office! I will come pick them myself. I hate to see delicious fresh fruit go to waste when there are hungry people living on pancake mix!
