Why is Garden Gnomette Grinning?

Well, not only are bulbs busting out behind her, but she is standing atop the Garden's new bicycle rack that Dan Deveny and I made!

Thanks to:

1. Kenner Concrete, for donating half a yard of sand & gravel

2. Instructables, for publishing a neat outdoor bike rack plan we sort of followed

3. Bicyclists everywhere, for not driving. Now you can lock up good while using the Garden's handy spigots and restroom facilities.

Full photo of the rack (and Garden Gnome-ette) after the jump.

A Huge Harvest Festival Thank You!

This year's Harvest Festival, which took place on October 31st, was a huge success! With the help of 65 volunteers, we hosted over 400 community members and raised over $1000 to benefit the Garden's programs!

Thank You!!

Thank you to all who came out to the Mad Hatter Tea Party!

This was all made possible thanks to the help of many volunteers who were very generous with their time, before, during and after the event! Thank you!!

Terra Cotta Pots Galore!!!

A much heart-felt thank you goes out to the Rays for donating  a plethora of terracotta pots and acrylic paints to the community garden. The acrylic paints will be so great to decorate the pots to add an extras splash of color and vibrancy to the garden.

Regardless of what you may have heard, the pots are going to be used for fund raising events.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Our Christmas tree recycling program was quite a success this year. With the help of Fred's Tree Service, the WCG was able to recycle about 175 Christmas trees. The chipped trees will serve as an excellent mulch to keep those pesky weeds and critters out of our gardens. Anyone wanting to plant azaleas and roses will also appreciate adding the pine chips to boost the acidity in the soil.
