Hunger And Poverty

Hunger is a condition of poverty. Living below poverty puts tremendous strains on a household, giving families barely enough money to purchase healthy and nutritious foods, as well as other essentials of life. Nutrition research shows that as income goes down, the nutritional adequacy of the household's diet goes down as well.

Food Bank to Remain Open

Despite a loss of funding, The Winnemucca Food Bank wil remain open.  As of July 1, 2010, the Ministerial Association will put the food bank under their umbrella until the food bank can obtain its own 501(c)(3) status.  Rent will be paid for the next three months by an anonymous donation.  There will be no paid staff.  The food bank will be run entirely by volunteers.  The days will remain the same, Mon, Wed, Fri.  The hours may be expanded to 5pm each night.
