When do you plant things here?

Here in Northern Nevada, our high desert climate can make gardening a little confusing for a midwestern girl like me. I'm from Missouri, where the average last frost date is April 15th and temperatures very rarely swing more than 20 degree in a day. So, being used to that climate, I'm chomping at the bit to get get started in the garden, especially when daytime feels like spring.

Vegetable Planting Dates

Are you ready to start gardening? We are! Here are a few tips about cold weather plants from the UNCE in Reno.

Planting dates depend upon the plant hardiness. Some vegetables are very hardy and can be planted as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Half-hardy vegetables can be planted 2 to 4 weeks before the average last killing frost date of May 15.
