Nutrition

Please allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Louisa Guest.  I am the new Health, Hunger, and Nutrition VISTA for the garden.  My goals for this year are to make health and nutrition a reality for families in Winnemucca and to work closely with other organizations in the community to help stomp out hunger.

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please email me at louisa@winngarden.org.

Thank you, Gwendolyn and Carrie for the time and effort that you have put into this position before me and for all your informative blogs.

Diggin' on Daikon

If you think all radishes are the same, you haven't tried daikon radish. A staple of Asian cooking, this large root vegetable is also known as Japanese or Chinese radish. Daikons are milder than the red radish, with a sweet and zesty flavor. They're extremely versatile - try 'em stir-fried, grilled, baked, boiled, pickled, or raw. Simply peel the skin with a carrot peeler and you're ready to go. Best of all, daikon is extremely low in calories - only 18 in a 3oz. Serving - and a great source of vitamin C.

A Liver-Healthy Vegetable

I went to one of our local grocery store and found that they have artichoke on sale....which got me thinking...and here is what I have found out about this appetizing vegetable.
