Food Bank

Food Drive For Local Food Bank

Today is the last day of June. I hope that my hunger awareness blogs has helped you to get angry about this unnecessary battle of hunger, that is not only all over the world but also very real in our own community.

Starting July 10th, the Community Garden Farmers' Market will have a food drive for our local food bank. There will be food drive bins set up at the entry of the garden and at the food bank's booth on NPO Row. Please show your support and do your part to help stomp out hunger.

Food Bank to Remain Open

Despite a loss of funding, The Winnemucca Food Bank wil remain open.  As of July 1, 2010, the Ministerial Association will put the food bank under their umbrella until the food bank can obtain its own 501(c)(3) status.  Rent will be paid for the next three months by an anonymous donation.  There will be no paid staff.  The food bank will be run entirely by volunteers.  The days will remain the same, Mon, Wed, Fri.  The hours may be expanded to 5pm each night.

Press Release: Community Coat Drive Collects Over 900 Coats

Youth Reaching Higher and the Winnemucca Community Garden collaborated to collect over 900 coats to be donated in our community.

Harvesting has begun!

For a lucky few, crops have already come in. I've been harvesting lettuce from the Plant a Row plot since the beginning of May.
